Pogs!

I have worked with Gallery1988 for over 7 years, so you will see numerous pieces made for their various shows on this beautifully self-ndulgent website. This is another contribution, for their 90s themed exhibit.

Is there anything more 90s than pogs? A craze that took the world by storm back in 90s, where kids collected circular “milk caps.” Stack them up, throw down a “Slammer” (a harder, thicker pog”) and whatever fell off the pile, you win.

I illustrated ten pogs celebrating the biggest movies for each year of that wonderful decade: Goodfellas, The Silence of the Lambs, Wayne’s World, Dazed and Confused, Pulp Fiction, Clueless, Scream, Boogie Nights, The Big Lebowski, and Fight Club.

For the longest time I couldn’t think of what the Slammer should be. And then one night, as I was brushing my teeth, it hit me. Duh. Space Jam.

Fake Reporter: Did you have some company print and cut these for you? That seems like a lot of work?

Me: As if! No, I personally printed and cut each pog myself, using a very intimidating circular leather cutter and mallet.
